From Corona to Coronation
Today, or yesterday already, the coronation of King Charles and Queen Camilla took place, as none of you surely didn't miss. I'm not really sure exactly how, but on my Finnish side of the family we are related to King Charles et al, and they are also for what I've been told members of the old Swedish-Finnish royal house and sometimes need to attend functions. None of us were invited to the ceremony though (Or was that what all the calls from UK lately was about?). My mother is also obsessed with King Charles and has been so since she was a child, since they are born on the same day. So, needless to say, today it was mandatory to watch the whole procedure on TV. It was fun though, and it is an historical event, but so is everything that happens all the time and often we never know the magnitude of an event until long after. My first memory of the royal family here in Sweden is unfortunately not a good one. It was in the late 70's or early 80's when The Swedish King was in town and visited Luleå University of Technology. I was around ten years of age and my school was just on the other side of a small bridge from the university campus. When the King was coming all children rushed there to look at him. All the other kids were dressed up and clean with shiny braids and polished glasses. I think I had inherited clothes from my boy cousins, taped glasses and dirty hair. Nobody had told me about the event and apparently not my parents either. I got a good spot just in front by the fence or rope by the red carpet. First out came the guards and cleared the area, which meant they made sure all the riff-raff, poor people or dirty kids were pushed out of the way, literally. I was pushed to the ground and told to stay in the back. However, my friends stood up for me and argued with the guards, but I just stood in the back instead. Don't remember seeing the King, and didn't care either, the fun was all gone. The moral of the story I guess is that you are no better than your actions, no matter where you come from, how shiny clothes you have or how much money is on your account.
Be kind.
Peace & Love
