Waylon
The story behind this musical masterpiece is quite sad. We had a cat named Waylon, that we drove all the way to Stockholm in mid winter to bring home. When we got him home, he suddenly vanished in thin air. We looked for him everywhere and were convinced he had somehow sneaked out. We went knocking on doors asking the neighbors if they had seen him, plunging in the deep snow in the forest yelling his name and borrowed a cat-trap from the local cat shelter and had on the yard for days, with a smelly tuna-can inside. We almost gave up hope on finding him. Then one night my partner stumbled upon him in the stairway. When he told me, I didn't believe him, thought he had been dreaming. It turned out the cat had been hiding in the sofa for four days, quietly. Not even when we turned the sofa upside-down did he flinch, he held his ground clinging on to the springs. The he slowly started to accept us and wanted to be around us all the time, hanging out in the yard, helping out with everything. He loved to be outdoors, chasing butterflies and investigating new places to hide. He never strayed from the yard, so we thought he understood the danger of the road. One summer night, when he refused to come inside at bedtime, we let him stay outside, with Tiger. In the morning, on our 2-year anniversary, we found Waylon dead by the side of the road. There he lied under the rowan in the grass. He had probably been hit by a car or motorcycle. A hit and run. After that the long heat came, the warmest summer I can remember, up here in northern Sweden. Bittersweet somehow, grief and heat is a strange combination. So, I made this song as an homage to our beloved cat Waylon. I also included a portrait of him in my tarot cards that I am painting and used that as cover art as well.
Hope you enjoy!
Peace & Love
